In this case and to safely repair a live branch, valves are installed to isolate the pipe and stop the flow of gas using a ‘squeeze off’ tool, the clamps used come in different sizes allowing the pipe to be squeezed safely stopping the flow of gas on most plastic pipes.

Once sealed and further safety checks carried out to ensure no gas is flowing, essential repairs can then be carried out, such as pipe fusing, or branch connections on the gas pipes.
